ANASAZI Programs for Young Adults

Young Adult Program

The Path Forward Starts In The Heart

More than 50 years ago, ANASAZI’s founders began leading young adults on month-long, wilderness-based journeys of self-discovery. These adults, and thousands more since, discovered their self-worth and valuable life skills–gaining resiliency, delaying gratification, learning self management/care, improving interpersonal communication, building empathy, and reframing perspectives. Many had a fundamental change of heart. Others started the process of recovery, overcame debilitating depression/suicidal ideation, or healed difficult relationships. They got off the couch, away from technology, found motivation and moved forward to begin their adult lives anew.

Today, ANASAZI Foundation is nationally accredited through the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the Association for Experiential Education (AEE) as an Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare provider. ANASAZI is licensed through the Arizona Department of Health Services as a Level II (residential) behavioral healthcare provider, and its clinicians also maintain independent licensure.

These files will be locked until such time as they are destroyed.

Screening

ANASAZI is not for everyone, and so we carefully screen all applicants prior to admission. Screening includes a telephone interview, medical examination and the review of a detailed social history by the treatment team. Young adults will not be accepted with medical conditions that would limit their participation or have concerns that cannot be adequately and effectively addressed at ANASAZI. In addition, young adults must voluntarily commit to complete the walking (minimum of 49-days).

Safety

ANASAZI’s professional staff organization includes a Medical Doctor, Board Certified Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and a Registered Nurse. The majority of the direct care staff are 21-30 years old. Many are completing degrees in the helping professions. Staff are trained in first aid, CPR, Wilderness First Responder and have appropriate guide licenses and permits. ANASAZI maintains provider agreements with a medical helicopter service and local hospital.
