In some families, parents find themselves unable to enter helpful conversations with a son or daughter. Attempts to talk about concerns result in a conversation of blame through words or silence. The times for teaching and learning together are few and far between, if not at all. For these families, we offer an opportunity to significantly improve their relationship through a “walking” in the wilderness.
The psychological component addresses the intra-psychic processes of affect regulation and cognition. ANASAZI endorses a positive psychology approach to intervention, instilling confidence and hope and believing that youth are capable of insight and voluntarily deciding to make needed changes that will improve the quality of their lives. Our therapists, called “Shadows” at ANASAZI, are trained in the most current empirically-based, systems-oriented treatment models that harmonize with a positive psychology perspective, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Emotion-focused Family Therapy. Therapists receive ongoing training and supervision from a licensed psychologist, a licensed marriage and family therapist and a licensed clinical social worker. Program curriculum and therapy also take into consideration the unique gender-sensitive needs of young men and women.
